Research

The Gazette has quoted from Eric Ericson’s book to provide information about Carder’s use of alabaster glass. Bobby Rockwell of Corning provides some background on reliability of the text.

“Eric Ericson’s book contains many mistakes like that and maybe I can explain why. Both Erickson and Philpot had approached my father in order to interview Frederick Carder. My father had told me that it was going to be a joint product, in other words a live recording of Carder accompanied by a book. Philpot wanted to to a in depth interview while Ericson wanted it out(the book) as quickly as possible. They split and Ericson published his book right away. Philpot took his time. In my opinion for what’s it worth is that Philpot did the better job, But we do have to remember that the knowledge that we have now wasn’t available at that time and Carder wasn’t all that co-operative about divulging his secrets.”

Best,

Bobby Rockwell
