What a beautiful piece John Styler and what a great start to a collection…

Recently some guests at my home asked me when we became interested in Carder Steuben. Well it was when we discovered we had a very interesting piece unbeknown to us.
My wife’s grandparents were giving us their sterling flatware as a wedding gift. After they had packed all the flatware neatly in a box they discovered the serving pieces.
Her grandmother took them and gently wrapped them and stuck them in this bowl.
It was years later that we discovered it was a Carder piece; hence the collecting began.

This is a somewhat unusual goblet in Gold Calcite. It is shape 3116 and is 6.5″ high.

Ed note–“Gold lined calcite items proved most popular and were made in a multitude of shapes; sherbets with matching plates, berry bowls, compotes, vases, salt dips, and sundry other items. The Aurene gold is usually found on the interior of the ware; however, items were made where the iridized portion is on the exterior surface and the Calcite forms the usuable portion.” p. 12 of A Guide to Colored Steuben Glass 1903-1933 (Volume 1) by Eric E.
