A Carder Window Project Update

May 3, 2013
Issue 1725

Wow! Ten of our members have already donated a total of $900, all of which will be matched by the Club. The donations have ranged in size from $50 to $250, but whatever you give will be appreciated. Our actions are stimulating the drive to get contributions from various Corning civic organizations, which is finally picking up steam. That’s the good news.

Now the bad news. I spoke with Tom Dimitroff this morning. The committee responsible for the Carder Window Project met with the contractor Wednesday evening. The project cost has risen from an estimate of $10-12,000 to a firm price of $15,000.

Several members had emailed me questioning the prior estimate which they thought was too high. The issue driving up the cost is that the Window is being installed on an outside wall of Corning City Hall and has to be protected from both weather and potential vandalism. Keep in mind that the Carder Steuben Display on Market Street is removed every winter, while the Carder Window will be a permanent installation. It does make a difference.

I want to again thank our members and readers who have already made donations, and to ask our other members to consider making a tax-deductible contribution to this project. Contributions may be made by check to the Carder Steuben Club at 60 E. Market Street, #204, Corning, NY 14830; or by using Paypal to Carder_Steuben_Club@yahoo.com

Thank you for your support,

David Goldstein

President
