Issue 1800
I have a framed original color ad for Carder Steuben from Country Life Magazine. It should be dated 1927 but is framed and not visible without taking it apart again. In that ad is a small notification that you could write to Corning Glass Works for their Steuben Glass Gift Book. I have never heard anyone mention that a copy of this Gift Book was ever found by anyone yet.
I thought that before you all met up at the symposium you might enjoy a stroll down memory lane to view what was hot and heavy with Steuben in Fall of 1927. The 12 page Gift Book contains around 20 pictures of about 40 pieces of Carder Steuben with some prices. Pieces vary from ACB Plumb Jade, Decorated Blue Aurene fan vase, millefiori glass bowl, to a duck centerpiece bowl in Bristol Yellow. A #5002 ACB Jade Bowl, double cut starting at $26.00 The two center pages sport full color! And much much more….
You can see on the back cover in 1927 Corning Glass works offered items like teapots, electric insulators, railroad and marine signal glass, thermometer tubing, and incandescent light bulbs.
Everybody wait up a second while I stuff two pockets full of silver dollars to go shopping with. I wonder what I could buy with my $35.00?
Not much controversy here. Just the straight dope on the low down in “27”. I will try to post a few pages for y’all to enjoy. I am begining to appreciate more and more all the time the rarity of these original adds for Carder Steuben.
