CSGA members take center stage at the 25th anniversary Symposium Members Showcase!
One of the many highlights of this year’s Symposium is the opportunity to learn from our own members. Talented CSGA members will share their expertise, research, and passion through several presentations and workshops that promise to educate and inspire. Here are summaries of two of the presentations to be delivered by our own members.
Beautiful glass deserves to be enjoyed, not hidden away in cabinets. In this special Members’ Spotlight, CSGA Vice President Steve Skalsky explores creative and elegant ways collectors incorporate Steuben and other vintage glass into everyday living. From seasonal displays to year-round décor, you’ll discover inspiring ideas for bringing your collection to life throughout your home. Steve is hard at work curating photos from members. Here are a few examples to wet your appetite.
Steve Skalsky is a retired medical device product manager and senior principal development engineer, as well as a former aerospace engineer. He has been collecting Steuben glass since being introduced to it by his neighbor and work colleague, Marshall Ketchum, in December 1987 while attending Marshall’s Christmas party and admiring his glass-filled display cabinets. Steve is a former Friends of Carder member, past treasurer of the Association, and its current vice president.
Travel back to the excitement of the 1933–1934 Chicago World’s Fair where innovation, technology, and art captured the imagination of millions. Sue Maynard will bring this remarkable event to life through its fascinating exhibits, memorable attractions, and collectible souvenirs. Whether you’re interested in history, design, or the cultural spirit of the era, this presentation is sure to delight.
After careers in teaching and IT, Sue has focused on collecting and researching 20th-century glass and pottery. In the 1980s, Sue and her husband, Steve, met Mr. Rockwell and began collecting Carder Steuben glass. They later became interested in Cowan Pottery, made in Cleveland in the 1920s, and Clarice Cliff pottery, produced in the United Kingdom during the 1920s and 1930s. Her interest in these artistic endeavors has led to writing and presenting programs for collector groups.
Our *25th* Annual Carder Steuben Symposium is just one month away! This milestone anniversary features an outstanding lineup of speakers, special presentations, and activities celebrating 25 years of the CSGA. We look forward to sharing this memorable weekend with you!
