2024 Symposium Presentations Available

Jan 9, 2025
Issue 3736

This issue of the Gazelle Gazette features the last recap of presentations from the 2024 Carder Steuben Glass Association Symposium.  We hope these have given you a flavor for the fascinating, rich information that was shared at our annual gathering.  If you were unable to attend this year’s Symposium, or if you want to revisit one of the presentations that you found particularly intriguing, the recordings are now available on the CSGA website here.  A $10 fee per presentation allows you to view it as often as you’d like for one week.  (This helps us cover the cost of hosting the presentations.)   The presentations from prior Symposium programs are available as well.  Please enjoy them again and again!

LOETZ GLASS

Karen Beeman, President of the Carder Steuben Glass Association gave a very informative presentation of the history of Loetz, from its inception until its eventual close after World War II. Karen’s presentation was full of period maps and photographs bolstering the history of this legendary company. It was interesting to learn that little is known about Johann Loetz, whose name became synonymous with iridized glass.  His most notable contribution to the world of glass was his daughter Karoline, born in 1836 with his second and younger wife Susanne, who the glassworks Johann Loetz Witwe was named. Additionally, Karen presented beautiful photographs of Loetz glass along with examples of glass from her collection that represented each of Loetz’s major time periods.

Thank-you, Karen, for putting together such a comprehensive presentation that explained the history and production of Loetz!

MEMBER MEETING JANUARY 18TH

As a reminder, we’ll be meeting virtually via Zoom on Saturday, January 18, 2025 beginning at 3:00pm EST.  During this meeting we’ll be sharing our recently created presentation on Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass.  This is the presentation that Jenny Monroe gave to the Vaseline Glass Collectors group last fall to rave reviews.  Though many of us know quite a bit about Steuben, we hope you might still learn something new.  And, as always, this meeting is a chance to catch up with other CSGA members and enjoy talking about glass together.

Meeting details will be emailed to all CSGA members next week before the event.  We hope to see you there!
