You may want to plan to arrive early to the Symposium to attend two fabulous activities planned for Thursday, September 7th.
For the kick-off event, the group will depart Corning at noon to travel about an hour by car to Alfred University, where the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center is located. The University possesses an archive of Gardner’s material from the time he served as Frederick Carder’s assistant (1929 through 1943). Director Dr. William LaCourse, Distinguished Professor of Glass, Emeritus, will share much of the archive with our group. This promises to be a special treat to view the archives and we hope it will prove enlightening!
Upon our return from Alfred University to Corning, enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. as you say hello to old friends and meet new ones – all while surrounded by beautiful Steuben glass (most engraved by Master Engraver Max Erlacher). What could be better than refreshments, warm conversation, and beautiful glass? You may find a piece that you absolutely need to take home! The welcome reception will be hosted by Kitty Erlacher at her shop at 26. W. Market Street in Corning.
We always love to see glass from our friends’ and colleagues’ collections. A perennial highlight in our Symposium program is the Collector’s Choice presentation where our CSGA club members share some of their favorite glass pieces and stories. This year Mike Moline, Sue and Steve Maynard, Beth Shaut, Scott Hansen, Dwight and Jeanette Little, and Gordon Hancock will be among the presenters. We can’t wait to see what gems they share with us.
This year’s Symposium will take place from September 7-9, 2023 at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. The schedule of events, information on hotel accommodations, and the link to register can all be found on the CSGA website here. Anyone wishing to attend the Symposium is encouraged to register and make hotel reservations online soon. Room blocks with preferred rates are reserved at nearby hotels but expire in the next week (details are here).
Please make your plans to attend today, and we can’t wait to see you in Corning!
