Issue 3575
Hi Alan and Susan,
We’re still talking about your auction and the amazing trip to Dania Beach that we had. It was well worth traveling and we’re so glad we did.
Yes, that was one long auction day! We are very happy with the things we got but are also still discussing the ones that got away. Your auction has brought together the Carder community in a new way. I got a few emails from people and we are comparing notes of who was successful where, with stories of “oh, YOU got that one? I was your underbidder!” We are so pleased that 18 (!) of your treasures will find their way to us for the next stage of their life.
We’re of course happy with all but my favorite one is the pink and blue paperweight cologne. We’ve bid on several paperweight colognes over the years but have not acquired one until now. This one is my favorite! If one believes that “things happen for a reason” then perhaps our unsuccessful bidding of the past was the preparation to find this piece. We also now have three of the perfumes with floral stoppers. Those have been in my head ever since we put together that hand-printed set of “Collector’s Choice Review” sheets back in… oh goodness, 2003 or so? I can’t wait to see them together in the cabinet.
We were able to pack a few things with us but will be shipping the rest. Once we have them all we’ll drop you a picture so you can see them adjusting to their new home and getting to know their cabinet buddies. And of course you have visitation rights anytime you’d like to come and see them again.
I know you are pleased with the outcome as well. It certainly generated a buzz!
All the best,
Cheryl & Chris Dartt
Congratulations on the auction. How many years now do I have to wait to put my collection up for sale. I am thrilled for you that you got fabulous prices for the really good pieces. Your collection was beautiful. I saw pieces that I had never seen before. (Glad for all of us collectors.)Sad that some of your other beautiful items were a steal. I was elated to see that there are still people out there interested in Carder Steuben and willing to buy.
I kept the name of the auction house (Akiba Auctions) for the future.
Stay well
