On Tuesday, June 1, Bobby Rockwell opined, I don’t think that this amethyst vase is Steuben.

Steve Skalsky responds.

Hi Alan, I agree with Bobby (who in their right mind wouldn’t regarding Steuben). On the amethyst goblet, one particular area that jumped out to me is the glass ball of the stem attaching the goblet to the base looks wrong, my Steuben goblets have better distinction between the disc to the ball back to the disc on the base. Also the goblet narrows too much prior to the stem attach (the proportions also looks wrong). Just my opinion.

Steve

Alan, Here is an example for the distinction between the discs and other areas of the stem area, where I didn’t see that the piece in question. Hope this helps clarifies my comments.

Steve

Alan, The goblet in question may be a twisted stem versus a ball, hard to tell from the image, however, if it’s a twisted stem, same story, again this would be the detail in a Steuben twisted stem. That detail is missing. Steve
