From CMoG’s Facebook Page

We are saddened by the passing of Jane Shadel Spillman, our former curator of American glass who retired in 2013 after a CMoG career that spanned nearly five decades. Jane joined the Museum’s 13-person staff in June 1965 as a research assistant and curator of education, and became an internationally-recognized expert on American glass, developing the impressive collection we have today.

“Jane was a force within the glass and museum communities, and helped shape our Museum for nearly half a century,” said Karol Wight, president and executive director. “Her contributions-in nearly every area-were numerous, and her impact in the field continues to be felt today.”

The Ideas Keep Flowing In

Hello Alan,

Perhaps another way to entice Steuben collectors is to start with their gifts or purchases of Steuben from family members. My Great Aunt bought a new pair of Celeste Blue and Verre de Soie candlesticks from a jewelry store in Little Rock, Arkansas during the 1920’s. I inherited them in around 1962. I happened to find a Celeste blue bowl to go with them. So they became the core collection of other Steuben pieces I bought over the years. I have bought a number of pieces from friends’ estate sales. Everyone seems to have a few family pieces.

2021 Carder Steuben Symposium Announcement

Sorry no in person meeting but glad that we will be able meet on Zoom. We probably will have more people attending on Zoom than we would have in person. I was looking forward though, just to be able to get away and to meet and greet in person.
