Mark Chamovitz’s story on his vase was also a good read. The vase is now a great family heirloom.

Alan what an interesting article from Kirk Nelson about artist Edris Eckhardt. However when the author gives the artist credit for being the first American artist to melt glass, I do think that Fred Carder predated the artist. True, Carder was born in England but became an American citizen. I sure wouldn’t put Carder in a non-artistic category. He was doing his own melting in the twenties and Pate-de-Verre perhaps before that when she was 15 – 20 years old.

We will be conducting an estate sale for the Sutterfield Family on September 25th and 26th. Susan and Cheryl, the daughters of Jim and Alice, suggested you may be interested in viewing the items for sale in their Carder Steuben collection. We have set aside Friday, September 18th from noon to 6pm as an opportunity for their friends and fellow collectors to view and purchase anything for sale in the estate before it is opened to the public the following weekend. The address is 2747 Goff Road, East Corning, NY.

We know several of you are not local and unable to travel because of “covid”, therefore we are offering FaceTime and mailing service. Please let us know if you are planning on attending in person or calling in so we can be prepared. If you are attending in person, let us know your approximate time frame so we can be compliant with social distancing. Face masks are required!
