CORNING – The Carder Steuben Club will hold its first annual live public auction of Steuben, Carder contemporaries and other glass from the Corning area Friday at the Corning Museum of Glass.
Bonnie Salzman, president of the Carder Steuben Club, said the auction preview will begin at 5 p.m. and the action will start at 7 p.m., at CMoG. Auction and consignment information can be found at the club’s website www.cardersteubenclub.org.
“The scope of the auction would encompass Steuben Glass, Hawkes Glass, Sinclair Glass, Tiffany Glass, Stevens & Williams Glass and more,” Salzman said. “We are looking forward to having our first ever public auction.”
The auction is open to the public in an attempt to get more people to collect the historic glass, said Mike Horton, event auctioneer. The Carder Steuben Club has held an annual private auction since 2006.
“We are looking forward to welcoming local people and people who collect or are interested in and love glass,” Salzman said.
Horton said the Carder Steuben Club is hopeful the public auction will encourage even more people to collect Carder Glass and to better know it’s history.
The Symposium will begin Thursday with a welcome at CMoG and end Saturday during a closing banquet at the Corning Inc. Headquarters. Programming consists of lectures and presentations by experts on the glass of Frederick Carder, museum and library scholars, glass dealers and collectors.
Additional programming and exhibition tours are also done in conjunction with exhibitions concurrently on display at the CMoG, which co-hosts the event, and the resources of the Rakow Research Library are also utilized.
