Unexpected Color: A Journey Through Glass

Amy Simon Hopwood will be traveling from New Jersey to Corning for Symposium weekend. She is the Associate Curator of Decorative Arts at the Newark Museum.

This presentation showcases the Thomas N. Armstrong III Collection of Steuben Glass currently on display at the Museum. This exhibition of over 130 examples of Frederick Carder’s colorful Steuben glass examines his glassmaking experimentation and reveals Armstrong’s use of the glass in dialogue with art and furnishings in a variety of his homes.

The Newark Museum’s glass collections offer opportunities to study Carder’s glassmaking career, the techniques that he learned in England and developed in Corning, and the historical inspirations for his Steuben designs.

Amy co-curated Unexpected Color: A Journey Through Glass with Stephen Milne, Guest Curator and Exhibition Design Advisor.
