Issue 3133
I recently acquired this Carder Steuben ad for two reasons. First, this is the only time I have seen a Carder Steuben ad featuring late period colorless pieces (Saint Tropez design here) that also included an earlier period piece – in this case an ivory and black translucent covered vase shape 7502. Information with the line drawing indicates this covered vase was also produced in Pomona Green, Wisteria and French Blue. Second, this is the only Carder Steuben ad I have seen that specifies the retailers selling the vase – R. H. Macy & Co. for the shape 7503 bowl in the T-114 pattern; B. Altman & Co. for the shape 7471 tall vase, also in the T-114 pattern; and John Wanamaker for the 7502 covered vase.
I don’t know the publication or date in which this ad appeared but similar ads for colorless pieces featuring other Walter Dorwin Teague designs appeared in House Beautiful and House & Garden in very late 1932 and early 1933.
