More On Yellows

Paul V. Gardner in The Glass of Frederick Carder speaks of Mandarin Yellow as “Ming yellow Chinese porcelain inspired this translucent color. Less than a dozen pieces are known, and nearly all are cracked because of internal strains or have actually broken and been repaired. The shapes indicate a dating of about 1916, and the small number surviving are attributed to a limited production coupled with the ‘fugitive’ quality of this glass. The color of all known pieces is fairly consistent and varies only slightly from those in the Corning Museum.”

Gardner also identifies Jade Yellow and Bristol Yellow.

World War I Memorial Window designed by Frederick Carder and made at Steuben Glass Works about 1930. The center panel and medallions are in Bristol Yellow glass made in iron molds cast from Carder’s wax model. Border is made of variegated squares set in lead. About 4 by 7 feet in size.
