Recently one of my collector friends was lamenting the state of the market for Carder Steuben art glass. The conversation turned to the question of whether Carder Steuben glass now being acquire, is just being purchased as nothing more than a decorative item, rather than a special art form. What has happened to the appreciation of Carder’s timeless classic designs, brilliant colors and creativity in glass, that makes him one of the great glass artists of all time? That’s a hard question to answer. We invite your commentary to this question. As part of a response by the Gazelle Gazette we’ll share, from time to time, critiques of selective Carder creations, in Collector’s Choice Review articles (1988-1998)published by The Rockwell Museum, written by members of the former Friends of Carder organization.
