The Spinning Wheel Magazine – October 1949

May 25, 2017
Issue 2720

In June of 1948 Minnie Watson Kamm visited Mr. Carder at his Studio in Corning for purposes of writing a chapter for a book she was authoring. James Drumright sent along copies of two articles from The Spinning Wheel magazine, the first article which appeared in the October 1949 issue and was entitled ‘Aurene Glass’. Hopefully, today’s highlight will be of interest.

“As a young man Mr. Carder studied art in Paris, Rome and London, and he became imbued with the simplicity and unity of line of much of the Classic Art; the shapes of his bowls, goblets, vases, etc, closely approximate the beautiful symmetry of the ancient art and never that of the ‘moderne’ which so frequently marreld or ruined the beauty of Tiffany glass from today’s standpoint, with the extravagant curves, deeply indented margins and indented or bulged surfaces.”
