Rande Bly asks what is Grenadine? Rande says that some think it is this pink colored glass decorated with a black, or blue, or other colored rim around it. Rande says in a sense that is true but it is not limited to that. Grenadine is not a glass type with certain requirements but in his opinion it is just a marketing name for Gold Ruby. It is that simple.

Rande says in his opinion grenadine is NOTHING more than Gold Ruby.

In the Glass of Frederick Carder by Paul V. Gardner in a section on Ruby Glasses at pp. 81-82, where the author elaborates, and a partial summary of that section states:

“Carder produced two basic types of ruby glass at Steuben: Gold Ruby and Selenium Ruby. The Steuben Gold Ruby is a delicate pinkish color made by adding 22-karat gold in solution to the batch.

“Carder’s Gold Ruby was nearly always used as a casing over crystal or Alabaster glass, the thin casing resulting in a very beautiful pink color.

“The transparent Gold Ruby was not worked directly from the pot;….”

“Other Gold Ruby colors made at Steuben by adding coloring oxides to the basic ruby batch were Purple Gold Ruby (gold and cobalt), Amethyst Ruby (gold and manganese), Brownish-Yellow Ruby (gold and Iron), and Cinnamon Ruby (gold and uranium).”
