David C-B’s Commentary
Don’t you love it when you can find an ivrene grotesque for $27.00?
The vase with turquoise caning is similar to the one in Shovers, page 138. The black with coral prunts was one of the last items to come out of the NY Steuben store, lo those many years ago. The green cluthra vase was my first piece bearing Mr. Carder’s signature which, as a new collector, made me doubly proud. (It was not to be the last, as it turns out.) In the back, though hardly visible, is a ruffled topaz insert with blue edging and prunts, fitting into a metal holder. There are finger bowls, goblets, and similar smaller items in that arrangement of blue on topaz.
How I hate the chock-a-block look – tall pieces are such a problem to display. Am searching for a cabinet maker to solve the problem.
