Carder Steuben Gallery
New members and first time-attendees of the Carder Steuben Symposium won’t want to miss this! Due to high demand, we saved some time in the Symposium program this year, September 15 – 17, to walk across the back parking lot to the Carder Steuben Gallery. This is a special gallery dedicated solely to the glass of Frederick Carder. We will have knowledgeable Club members positioned in key spots inside the Gallery to point out key pieces, unique treasures, and of course, to answer questions. This year is THE time to attend the Symposium to learn more about what you love to collect! Don’t miss it! Registration deadline is September 6.
Many Shades of Blue
Yesterday David C-B said the blue jade bowl in his collection is neither light nor dark blue, and he believes it is the color usually used primarily for the under-color for ACB, e.g., pagoda lamps.
Rande Bly has amplified those comments as follows:
As the story goes this particular shade of Blue Jade seems to show up on the west coast. It was probably marketed on the west coast back in the day. The color really is quite rare.
I think it has no white interior glass but is homogeneous throughout. Alabaster is it’s base glass. I have not heard of a Carder formula for it in his note books yet but would assume it is cousin to Celeste Blue. I have seen pictures of about 5 pieces of it but have yet to hold one.
People refer to it as Medium Blue Jade but it may have had a more sophisticated name of Royal Blue Jade. The information on this color is extremely limited and I believe it’s history was just passed on by word of mouth as no authors have featured it.
Nice find David!
