Rose du Barry
from sherbet collector, Jim Sutterfield
Re:
“David Chadwick-Brown’s question about sherbets.
I do not have nor have I seen a plum jade, canterbury or cairn gorm sherbet. I was told once of a light blue jade set that had a flint white wrap on both the bowl and underplate. I think I disagree on the alabaster white statement used with light blue jade.I believe flint white is used as the casing which simplifies the sealing of foot to bowl for expansion purposes.”
To continue this discussion Jim, what say you to Rose du Barry? Author Eric Ericson in his book, A Guide to Colored Steuben Glass 1903-1933 Book Two at page 49-53 refers to this as a Rose du Barry sherbet.
Diamond point inscribed on the under plate in scrip, “Collection Eric Ericson Rose du Barry”
