Steuben Categories

from Brad Withers of University Heights, OH

In talking about Steuben and reading descriptions, I have come to the conclusion that there are some categories.
First is “Catalog” These were items that are listed in or standard run items. These pieces came in standard colors. Next is “Special Order”. Probably a catalog item that was made of a different color(s) that was not in the catalog. Then comes “Experimental” Maybe one or a few were made. Sometimes they were difficult to mass produce so a limited run was made. Finally. “One of a Kind” These items were made for a special use, purpose or really high art. Thoughts?

Luminor Bases

Hi Alan,

In answer to Doug Cutter’s search for the base for his luminor which is very hard to find with out its ball or pineapple. Some of the old timer told me that people tended to trough it away when the electric cord went bad. They didn’t realize it could be replaced. They kept the luminor as they could use it as a paperweight. I had someone call me a few years ago who were looking for a base as they had broken the base in half. They were going to sell it without the base and ZI told them it could be repaired if it were a clean break. I never heard what they did but hope they kept it and got it repaired. There are more luminor than bases.
