More from the Collection of David Chadwick-Brown

The green, twist stem compote is signed Hawkes, and is a color that seemed to be simply listed as ‘green,’ when Carder was supplying blanks to Hawkes. It is a deeper green than the array of greens that Carder produced when Steuben had become a marketing competitor. When no longer supplying blanks, and on his own, Carder’s marketing skills gave us a great variety of named greens.

The horse head in the front is somewhat a mystery. It is not cire perdue, though signed by Carder, and I cannot find any line drawings of this piece. It came from an estate in upstate New York, and the collectors had many pieces from Mr. Carder, and signed for them by him.
