The 1938 News
Alan –
This is a 1938 News-Sentinel photograph of Mrs. Durfee Day at an exhibition of Steuben glass at the Milwaukee Art Institute sponsored by The American Institute of Decorators. The vase on the bottom shelf is the Strawberry Mansion Vase (shape 7389). On the middle shelf is shape 7468 which was also made in Ivrene as well as Alabaster with Mirror Black trim. Mrs. Day appears to be holding shape 7471 which most likely has an engraving pattern by Walter Dorwin Teague. The vase on the top shelf may also have been designed by Carder and appears to be shape 7732. The line drawing for shape 7732 does not appear in Gardner or Ketchum but it does appear in Madigan, although without any attribution as to the designer. However, while the shape number is near the very end of known Carder designs it is within the range of his designs.
