Theft Alert

Thanks to Paul Doros of Irvington, NJ for alerting us to the theft of Carder Stebuen glass.

A Great Question

Lisa (Ackerman) Baldwin of Orange, CA asks this question.

Good Morning Alan,

This morning’s Gazette has a picture of a beautiful cut glass bowl, labeled shape 1225.
Do we think that the piece was cut at Steuben, or that the blank was made there and cut by another
Glass house? And if so, which house?

Thank you! 🙂 Lisa (Ackerman) Baldwin

Ed. There may be other opinions, but what I did is go to Marshall Ketchum’s book, Frederick Carders’s Steuben Glass, which features a cross index. I looked up shape #1225. From this I found that it is pictured in the Paul Gardner tome, The Glass of Frederick Carder, at page 347 in pictures B & C.

This section of the book is “Additional Steuben Line and Lost Wax Items”. It notes that the following pages are taken from early Steuben catalogs showing cut glass, Aurene, and other items. These catalogs were used by traveling salesmen and at the factory from about 1904 to 1912. The pictures in B & C show three different 1225 cut glass bowls in three different patterns. Other pictures of cut glass probably exceed 100 other pieces.

The following pictures appear for shape #1225 in the Cardersteubenclub.org website.
