The Many Type of Diamonds

First, A Question

Alan, I think we (at least me) need a better description of Willson Craigie’s green silver overlay vase. I only see a clear green glass vase with silver overlay, without air traps, diamond quilting or mica. Could Mr. Craigie please give us a new description? Thank, Leigh Alan Demrow, Janesville, WI

Then Willson’s Reply

3 more photos. I do not believe that there is air trapped within each ‘diamond”. on the exterior of each vase, the surface is completely smooth…… on the interior, each ‘diamond’ represents an indentation easily felt to the touch. The bases are polished pontils and show the beginning of the pattern.
It appears to me they were not made by Steuben, nor Loetz.

Proof?

Hello from sunny & warm LaCrosse, Wisconsin!,

I look forward each morning to your newsletter.

re: Willson Craigie’s Vase

There is an identical vase currently listed on Ebay that is marked WM Wise & Son. (William Wise) This information should help with the overlay but not the glass origin. Wise also purchased American high end pottery blanks from Rockwood, Weller, and others to decorate with the silver overlay. The company was in business for many years.

Hope this helps,

Lyle Fokken
