To leapfrog from a discussion of Steuben’s jade glass: Looking at the two ashtrays shown in Plum Jade/Mirror Black and Rosaline/Alabaster, how did the glass artisans make the twisted rings and apply them to the piece? Also, what was the difference in methods, depending on whether a ring was to be fixed (as in these ashtrays) or hang (as on vases)?

We are reminded of the many mistakes Shuman made. When are we going to offer grace to those pioneering the field and understand that the difference between authors and participants is that authors were brave enough to risk their reputation reporting cutting edge facts while participants lurk in the bushes waiting to parrot confirmed facts?

Give everybody their due credit from Ericson to Shuman to Dimitroff to our modern day internet authors. Do you all realize someday 20 years from now the blog will be about what the Gazette had to say?

It would behoove everyone to look at what the authors got right rather than what they got wrong and to have the wisdom to to know the difference. I thank every author we have had for what they have offered. Please pass the salt.
