No Opinion Formed
from Rande Bly of Birmingham, Al
I have formed no opinions about the yellow pitcher and clearly see more than one viewpoint.
So far we have only cons presented so I thought it would be fun to throw some pros in the mix for debate.
The date breakdown I have shows shapes 1000 to 2500 date from 1914 -1918 which could place the pitcher’s shape of 1631 around August of 1916. This will verify Gardner’s 1915-1916 date and present our first problem. The line drawing is hauntingly similar to the pitcher. As stated by others the pitcher seems to have some visible translucence showing two slightly different shades of yellow. I will include two CMoG photos of the translucent glass Mandarin Yellow. They show visible translucence and two slightly different shades of yellow in a single piece with stunning color similarities to the pitcher.
It was said that because of the internal stress in Mandarin a handle would have never been applied and a pitcher is not in Chinese form. Let me remind everyone that Rouge Flambe has the same stress problems and is of Chinese influence also. So one might falsely assume that a Rouge Flambe toothbrush holder would never have been made. The last thing you would do is have Rouge Flambe threading applied to it. Well as we all know Carder did it and it does exist.
Rouge Flambe Reeded Tooth Brush Holder (click on image)I sure would like to see a side by side comparison in person. Even if it was 97% no 3 % yes , with Mandarin I would like to eliminate totally the 3% chance it could be. Oh yeah, it looked like it had the quarter sized pontil also.
