And all I can say is Wow….this truly is the most comprehensive guide to DeVilbiss bottles. My mouth is watering. I want every single bottle. Everyone…..you must own this book. What a joy.

p. 15 Cluthra – Steuben

Mr. Carder’s Cluthra, characterized as a cloudy glass permeated with varying sized bubbles, first appeared in 1920. Alabaster glass was rolled over the marver covered with fine colored or opaline glass. Tapioca was picked up from another marver; this gave the hot glass its bubbling effect.

Steuben’s Cluthra includes a great majority of their colors. The product is attractive, scarce, highly sought; when marked, it will be with the acid-etched Steuben Fleur-de-Lis.

Most of the objects in this ware are quite large, thick and heavy. Vases, bowls, colognes, boudoir sets and lamp bases are generally the items found. Some pieces are sculptured, Acid Cutbacks or have applied handles or feet in a variety of colored crystals.
