Paperweight

I am the seller of the weight listed on ebay and responded to an ebay question asked by Kathy Hopkins regarding her signed “Steuben” (?) weight.

I purchased the weight on ebay from the late Louis St. Aubin, a preeminent authority on Pairpoint and Mount Washington glass. Louis said the weight was definitely Pairpoint, which is the basis for my attribution. Many of the later Pairpoint design were based on Steuben designs and I think this is one of them. The most common such design often appears as an unsigned “Steuben” Olive Dish. On the Pairpoint verssion there is a slight difference in form of the scrolled handle.

If the weight does not sell on ebay I will bring it to the Symposium Show in September and you can decide.

This is something for the Gazette, hopefully with an answer to my question.

This is a Steuben paperweight in clear and white that I own. Mine is signed and there have been 10 to 12 that I have seen on eBay listed under Steuben and they were all signed Steuben.
Then I bought this one in clear and red, white and blue. Mine is signed in script Steuben. Now there is one on eBay listed under Pairpoint. I wrote to the seller who said that it is definitely NOT a Steuben paperweight. That the signature on mine is a forgery. His is not signed. Who is right? Is this a Steuben paperweight or not? They are exactly the same design and I can’t believe that this is not Steuben because of that and the one I own. If the one above is Steuben, then this one has to be Steuben. Right?
Many thanks,
Kathy

Market Street

Here is a link to an article I came across. Click for Market Street Article It was originally written in 1986 but it is a remarkable discussion of Market Street and Corning. Sure, some of the stores have changed but it seems to me that the character of the street comes through. Those who are familiar with the town and street will recognize it and it is a good introduction to Corning and Market Street for those coming to the Symposium for the first time.
