It did come up so I probably should address Marshall Ketchum’s claim I guessed on Nile Green. It was not a guess. I found Nile Green using the same manner I used to find Pale Green, and Antique Green. There was direct information in factory records that shows us precisely what colors these names belonged to. We have all heard this guessing accusation before but it doesn’t seem to hold water. The facts show that I was correct on Pale Green, Celadon Green, Antique Green, and time will show I was correct about Nile Green also.
Part of what I have set out to show has been a battle of man verses machine. I have spent years researching these colors using nothing but old school methods. I am not too keen on simply pushing a button on a machine and waiting for it to tell a person what color it is. It seems to take all the mystery, skill, and fun out of it. I set out to prove that “old school” was not dead. I got all 4 of these greens right so that is either pretty good guessing or I knew something. It would seem to me that anyone who got all 4 of these greens wrong would be the one guessing. Below is CMOG’s picture of Nile Green.
