For quite a few years now the Carder Steuben Club has been growing year by year, quite nicely. As the board of CSC is about to close the books on this year’s membership, they would like to appeal to non-members to consider joining the club at this time. CSC supports this newsletter by paying for its hosting service; supports a rich and enviable website; an annual symposium; and membership for all CSC members in The Corning Museum of Glass. More importantly, for $35/year, the membership represents and makes a collective statement in support of art glass collectors in general, and in support of perpetuating one of the world’s great glass artist, Frederick Carder. My first piece of Steuben is the first vase I am attaching but it never did see the front door of my house. I bought it from a lady who paid just under $2.50 for it in a thrift shop in Iowa. After making what was a pretty hefty offer, which she ultimately accepted, she started to cry on the phone because she could now afford to put new brakes on her old car. I was happy and so was she! I had it delivered to a friends place in the Washington area and when he opened it he loved the piece as well! After some back and forth we agreed that he would keep it in his collection and I would continue in my hunt for my first piece.

Soon after this I found another green Aurene that I happened to like slightly more then my first purchase. This is the 2nd vase attached and I was now hooked on finding the best examples I could afford of some of the rarer types of glass and colours that came from the Steuben factory. I don’t buy a lot of Steuben but love everything that I have kept since my first purchase about 10 years ago.
