DEAR MEMBERS –I THINK THERE IS A VERY SIMPLE WAY THAT AS A GROUP WE CAN END THE DISAGREEMENTS THAT ARE ALWAYS SHOWING UP ABOUT THE COLORS.
AS PART OF THE CLUB, CAN WE PULL SOME MONEY OUT OF THE KITTY, PAY A GLASS COMPANY TO DO A STUDY ON ALL THE “”””POSSIBLE COLORS “”” THAT WERE MADE DURING THIS TIME SO THAT WE CAN STOP SOME OF THESE VERY “”STUPID DISAGREEMENTS ON THE COLORS.
FROM CHAPTERS IN GLASS BOOKS I HAVE READ OVER THE YEARS , DURING THIS ERA OF GLASSMAKING DURING THE CARDER, TIFFANY, STEVENS & WILLIAMS ETC. ETC. ERA THIS WAS GOING ON DURING THIS TIME.
THE BUILDINGS AT THIS TIME WERE NOT BUILT LIKE THE GLASS BLOWER HAVE TODAY. WHEN THE GLASSBLOWERS START TO WORK, FROM A FEW OF THE GLASSBLOWERS IN CORNING TODAY THEY TOLD ME A FEW YEARS AGO, THEIR BUILDING ARE ALL EVENLY TEMPERED TO KEEP THE COLD,DAMPNESS OUT OF THEIR BUILDING NOW DAYS.
MOST OF US KNOW THAT WHEN CARDER, TIFFANY, DURAND PLUS OTHER GLASS COMPANIES FROM THIS TIME ALL HAD THIS TO WORK AGAINST. IN ALL MY 45 PLUS YEARS OF COLLECTING STEUBEN GLASS I HAVE SEEN MY FAIR SHARE OF ODD COLORS THAT I KNEW WERE CARDER’S STEUBEN, BUT THE COLOR WAS OFF. WAS IT BECAUSE OF THE BLOWER, THE SHAPE, TEMPERTURE OUTSIDE, WAS THE FIRE JUST NOT HOT ENOUGH ETC. ETC?
MOST PIECES WE ALL HAVE SEEN ON THE CLUB’S PAGE, 97% OF THEM I WOULD SAY YES THEY ARE CARDER STEUBEN GLASS, AND THE OTHER 3% MIGHT BE S&W, SINCLAIR ETC, ETC.
SOMEWHERE SITTING IN A FILE IN CORNING THERE MUST BE A FILE AS TO WHAT AMOUNTS OF WHAT CHEMICALS WERE USED FOR CARDER’S GLASS.
I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH A COLLECTOR ASKING FOR HELP AS TO WHETHER THE PIECE IS OR ISN’T STEUBEN GLASS, THAT IS WHAT WE AS A GROUP ARE HERE FOR. WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS FIND A WAY TO TO GET SOME OF THIS “I AM RIGHT YOU ARE WRONG, OUT OF HERE AS A GROUP.
WE HAVE MONEY IN THE KITY, SO “””WHY “””DON’T WE ASK SOME GLASS EXPERTS WHAT WE SHOULD DO AND DO IT AND AT LEAST WE WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE A BETTER IDEA WHERE WE ARE AND THEN GO FROM THERE?
THANKS FOR THOSE WHO READ THIS LETTER AND IT MIGHT GET A FEW BOARD MEMBERS OFF THEIR DUFFS AND DO SOME STUFF FOR ALL OF US TO SETTLE THE NAMES OF THE COLORS OF MR. CARDER’S GLASS ONCE AND FOR ALL.
SINCERELY,
