My first piece of Steuben Glass story – Schultz

Apr 28, 2014
Issue 1968

Attached are the first two pieces of Steuben David and I purchased at an Auction of the Geraldine Dodge Estate in Morristown NJ in the late 70’s. Two Gold Aurene Vases were waiting just for us.. These were the only Steuben pieces in the entire auction, which was mainly of Bronze Animals. We were lucky because every one at the auction was there for the bronzes and I don’t think any one else bid on the pieces. Little did we ever think this would be the beginning of a long passionate relationship with Frederick Carder and his glass.. We went to the preview really just to see the estate ,something to do on a nice Saturday afternoon with no intention of buying. Go figure!

Google Art Project

We’ve mentioned before the participation of the Corning Museum of Glass (“CMoG”) in the Google Art Project. Its been some time though and the project has matured and the number of images has grown significantly. Follow the link below to see the complete listing of the more than 2,100 images that CMoG has contributed. Of course, while you are there, you should refine your search by doing a search for “steuben”. That results in over 200 images of both Carder and Modern Steuben.
