Means to Identification
Ray & Lee Grover’s text, Art Glass Nouveau, at page 156 discusses Mr. Carder signing pieces of glass brought to him in his 90s. “The best identification of course is the shape. In the latter years of his life Frederick Carder would authenticate unsigned pieces with his ‘F. Carder,’ and either the Aurene or Steuben signature. There should be no questioning of his ability to identify work due to his advanced age, as we personally had (p.157) occasion to visit with him only a few months before his passing, and there was at no time any question as to his mental accuracy.”
