Issue 1783
Hooray for Marshall! Exactly the way it should be handled.
Many or us cannot physically attend the Symposium as much as we would like to be there.
Jo Ann Godawa, Bellevue, NE
Hi Alan — I agree with Marshall Ketchum on both points he has posted about the last several days. I can’t attend the Symposium, but as a Carder Steuben club member, I’d like to have the opportunity to vote on an issue that could entail a wide of outcomes. I assume the financial implications could be important either way, and I would much appreciate some guidance. Thanks!

I am not in total agreement with Marshall. Many organizations require attendance in order to vote….. U. S. Senate and U.S. Congress to mention a couple. The vote coming before us weighs heavy on the requirements of the Carder Steuben Club…… who know best than those who contribute (not just $35) with time, expertise and sacrifice? Democracy’s have a tendency to vote themselves into extension……. I feel as though those folks who are truly “sacrificing” are the ones who should have the say. Attendance is required of Board members. Attendance is the way others say: “I’m committed”. The club will have problems trying to be everything to everybody.

Alan – Susan and I discussed this last night and she persuaded me to change my vote: I’m now in Marshall’s camp.
Rationale: Those who pay the $35 dues have signaled their commitment because they receive no more than those who do not pay their $35……… therefore, let those who pay have the value of the vote.
