The book, COLLECTING ART NOUVEAU SHADES

DARRAH L. ROBERTS

I have collected shades for 43 years and find that the word “finest/finer” was used by Darrah as his own personal opinion. His passion was shades and he felt that “in his opinion”, which he valued very highly, Steuben produced the finest. Darrah Roberts was a good friend and this is by no means a criticism, just a friendly observation of a great collector. Many shade collectors will differ with this opinion, because everyone’s aesthetic varies. I personally find my favorites find themselves in Tiffany, Steuben, and Quezal……with a few additional shades being made by Fostoria, You can find other information in AMERICAN ART NOUVEAU GLASS, by Albert C. Revi. Welcome to the world of shades. I have always valued other collectors thoughts and information, so an open mind is recommended and find your own favorites.
