RED LANTERNS

Hi Alan,

Bobby Rockwell here. Here is a sample of a globe that Steuben made for Adams and Westlake. Johnny Jansson was the gaffer for this type of globe because of the degree of skill it took to make these. This type of globe was more for presentation rather than actual use as railroad equipment because it was never intended for the hard abuse of use on the railroads. As I recollect the owner was a T. Mac Namara who was a conductor on the Central and was given this lantern in the twenties. After Corning took over Steuben they were producing more than Art Glass for a time and Jansson was often borrowed by different departments because of his skills up until his retirement. This information came to me from a retired Corning worker who was a mold boy for Jansson in his early years and described him as a tyrant until you earned your right in his shop.

Hope you enjoy,

Bobby
