Issue 1743
WORLD WAR II
After I responded to the question asked by Kathy Hopkins about the Audubon plates I had a question. If the creation of these plates started in 1940 it must have been short lived, wasn’t the Steuben operation deemed non-esencial during the war years, and for how long?

HURRICANE SANDY
Thank you for putting my question in the Gazette. I lost all of my collecting books in the NJ hurricane. The hurricane wiped out everything in my garage and family room on the bottom floor. I kept all of my books in the family room. Thank goodness no damage on the 2nd and main floor nor the 3rd bedrooms floor. I have slowly been buying replacements, but I guess I missed replacing Madigan’s book. I must buy it again. Again, Many thanks for the information. What would we ever do without you! Kathy
PS: $300 in 1940 and 1943 was a lot of money then. That was even 5 weeks wages when I graduated from nursing school in 1956 before taxes. No wonder they are so expensive now. But the engraving is fantastic and worth every penny, or should I say dollars. Chuckle! Chuckle! Thanks again.
