BRILLIANT WEEKEND (May 4 & 5) AT THE CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS

Ed. note–Frederick Carder did a great deal of cut glass–some clear and some cut to clear. I would expect that the dealer show will include Carder cut glass.

The Eastern Lakes and Mid-Atlantic chapters of the American Cut Glass Association (ACGA) are once again presenting the Brilliant Weekend Affair, a unique glass show and sale featuring cut and engraved glass.

This event is free with Museum admission or $5 at the Auditorium door.

American Brilliant Glass Show

Pre-eminent glass dealers from across the United States will be exhibiting. The presentation will emphasize American Brilliant Period cut and engraved glass, as well as specially selected examples of Steuben glass and European glass, and other special features.

At the Museum

Also included in Museum admission is the Masters of Studio Glass: Richard Marquis exhibition, on view in the Contemporary Glass Gallery, as well as the world’s largest collection of art and historical glass. Don’t miss the live, narrated Hot Glass Shows, or the Flameworking, Glassbreaking and Optical Fiber Demos in the Innovation Center. The Museum is also home to a state-of-the-art glassmaking school, where visitors can enjoy Make Your Own Glass experiences for an additional fee.

Enjoy dinner with a special lecture by Museum conservator Stephen Koob, at the Radisson Hotel on Saturday, May 4. Koob will provide information about the origin and composition of rainbow glass. Cost of the dinner is $36, and advance reservations are required.
Special weekend rates are available at the Radisson Hotel, Corning. For more information, visit the ACGA web site, www.cutglass.org, or call 703.425.5574.

HISTORICAL GLASS MUSEUM #54

This is HGM Steuben No 54. The label says only “Steuben Lemonade Set” which consists of 1 pitcher (10″) and four lemonade handled cups/glasses (5 3/4″). It was donated by the family of one of the founders of Redlands. There is the note that it is Rosaline and Alabaster.

Rosaline & Alabaster Lemonade Set

Shape #6232

This looks to me like the #6232 pitcher. The #7218 is also similar, but there are subtle differences in the overall shape between them. I leave it to wiser and more experienced minds than mine to say which of the two it is (or something else.) Obviously HGM #54 has a ribbed optic, whereas the two pitchers in the shape index both have a swirled optic.

I see that there are also tumblers numbered to match both pitchers. The 6232 tumbler shown in the shape index has the ribbed optic, while the 7218 tumbler is plain.

++++++++++++++

This is Steuben shape 6232 in Rosaline and Alabaster. The 6232 and the 7218 use the same mug so the only way of telling the shape, with certainty, is the pitcher.
