Blue Aurene Vase with White Leaf & Vine Decoration and four indenations in rim

Shape Number 6300

9 1/4 inches high

This is a vase belonging to the Corning Museum of Glass and was a gift to the Museum from Otto Hilbert. Hilbert was a colleague of Frederick Carder while both were at Steuben/Corning Inc. This vase looks very much like a production 6300 in decorated Blue Aurene. It is 9.25 high. The only difference from normal production seems to be the four indentations on the top edge. This added decoration may make this piece unique.

CASED, FLASHED, BOOM, BAH!*/

This question has been posed to readers for enlightenment:

“I’ve been studying glass recently with two layers – colored over colorless. These pieces are variously described as “cased”, “flashed” or “stained”. Could someone please explain the difference among these three terms and how I can tell the difference (especially in a photograph)?”

WRONG PERIOD

This is HGM Steuben No 49. The label says that it is a Steuben Glass Footed Bowl in amethyst color. The label says it dates from the 1960s. I measured it and it is 3″ high and 10″ in diameter. There is no mark on it that I can see. Again, there are two pictures–one looking down at the bowl and one from the side. This came from a donor other than the dentist.

Optic Ribbed Amethyst Bowl

Shape #2852

10 inch diameter

This is a common yet distinctive Steuben shape. I had one just like it a few years back. I believe that it is their #2851, in amethyst. It was made in many colors and sizes. Obviously the 1960s date on the label is incorrect, since Steuben went all-crystal in the 1932-1933 time frame.
