Issue 1694
Our Webmaster, Marshall Ketchum, has arranged permission with CMoG to get copies of their pictures of Carder Glass at the Carder Gallery at CMoG. Many, many wonderful pieces not found elsewhere. Marshall has been posting them on our website, www.cardersteubenclub.org
Every day now I take a look at the latest posting of these images. Quite a delightful daily effort. Go to the website. Under “shape gallery” click on “recent additions”. A feast for the eyes.

LAMP VASES
Two days ago Jo Ann Godawa asked a question about what happens to the value of an acid etched vase when it has been drilled for a lamp base.
Hi Alan,
“As a point of curiosity, many of these larger vases were factory drilled and used as lamp bases. I would like opinions as to how the hole in the item affects the value as many of them are taken apart.”
I would have expected a number of responses. However, only one.
“This is to Jo Ann Godawa on the subject of drilled pieces. I have always judged them harshly. I feel a good vase that is drilled looses about 40% of it’s value. A 10 thousand dollar Moss Agate vase would be worth about 6 thousand as a lamp and not as desirable. I feel this judgment is too harsh and I am not sure why I feel like this. Originally the lamps were of course worth much more than the vases but at this time they are not from what I have seen. Thank God it is not a chip because I feel a chip would take a 10 thousand dollar vase to less than $1200.

NEW YORK TIMES
I was saddened to see the clue at 57 Across in last Sunday’s New York Times Crossword Puzzle.
The clue was “Onetime art glass manufacturer”.
Unfortunately, the answer was STEUBEN.
