Redlands Museum Asks for Help

Alan–At the Historical Glass Museum in Redlands, CA, we have great interest in having accurate descriptions of the pieces of glass in our collection. I went back and dug up an inventory–supposedly of our Steuben pieces–that numbers 41. The pieces on this list are the pieces donated by a generous Southern California dentist (who was not even a member of the museum) about 2006. I have had the inventory list reviewed by Michael Krumme and he agrees with me that we can’t tell what pieces are described on the inventory list because of the vagueness of the descriptions. Further, review of the cabinets in the room that holds the Steuben glass shows that there are additional pieces that have been given to the museum by other donors.

In the interest of obtaining an accurate and inclusive list, I will be going to the museum beginning next week to photograph the pieces that are identified as Steuben along with the description that we have. The photography may not be fabulous because I can’t remove them from the cabinets but hopefully it will be good enough to identify the pieces. I am going to begin to post them on the list and hopefully get the help of Carder Steuben club members to give me accurate descriptions of each piece. This might also stimulate some discussion from list members.
