Issue 1587
Thursday, October 11, 2012
At the business meeting of the Carder Steuben Club held during the Club’s Symposium a show of hands was asked for on the issue of whether modern Steuben should be included in the Club’s activities. A clear majority of hands went up in approval.
Sunday, following the Symposium the board met and took up this issue. An initial question was whether the Club’s web site can adapt to this. It was reported that technically this could be handled. However, it would likely require two web sites that would integrate both through a single portal. Estimated costs to program for this is estimated at $3,000 to $3,500.
The discussion then turned to how to implement and who would expertly take the responsibility and provide the passion to maintain the site, much as is the case with the current web site. The board concluded that there is a need to move forward slowly and carefully. Initially, it was thought we need identify and find a core group who would support and provide expertise for such a project. In this vein it was thought that there may be local support and passion for the modern Steuben collector, since the Steuben operation was based in Corning.
Likewise, it was suggested that at the next Symposium a modern Steuben presentation would be in order. With those thoughts the matter of modern Steuben integration was tabled while inquiries for support could be extended.
