More reporting from Lisa Ackerman of Orange, California.
A question was asked during the Stephen Koob’s presentation on repairing damaged glass at the Carder Steuben Symposium.. Is B-72 commercially available and where does one get it? He started to reply that he makes his B-72 concoction up…
Then a smarty pants with a laptop open to the internet blurted out, “It’s $10.00 a tube on the internet! I just ordered 3 tubes!” To which Stephen informed us that he makes his own because generally what is online is not the right consistency…it’s too thick. He also said that the formula is online…it is not patented. I was impressed with the willingness of the Corning Museum to so readily share information. Perhaps this is born out of the help THEY received 40 years ago after ‘the Great Flood’ of ’72.
Here is a video that was played for us at the beginning of the session. It shows how a horrible event where 18 people lost their lives helped define a community and ultimately led to the furthering of ways to conserve and repair of glass of antiquity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA6oXZJLvpQ
