Yesterday we reported on the American Cut Glass Association annual meeting. Yes, Frederick Carder was an important figure and did unique work in the American Cut and engraved glass movement of the early 20th Century. Someone wrote in and asked to share some pictures with examples. Got a good picture? Send it along so we can see and focus on some of Mr. Carder’s cut and engraved creations.
That takes us to the next creation. The Radisson hotel in Corning has a fabulous display of Mr. Carder’s glass that sits near its banquet rooms. What an inspiring way to attend a banquet. Anyhow, some of the public rooms, in addition, also have pictures of some great Carder pieces. Well now the hotel is doing a much more elaborate redecorating job and has asked Tom Dimitroff to help. So, here goes. We can’t publish all the pictures in one send because we’re limited in how many gigs of information we can send. But here’s a start, and we’ll cover all of Tom’s pictures over the coming days. Tom reports:
I thought the coming symposium might be the time to review a project I just finished at the Corning Radisson. First, I have redone the pictures in the Carder Room. I will attach a photo that gives an idea of just how much larger the new photos are. Then I will include photos of some of the groupings I put together in the Carder Room.
The old photos in the Carder Room were prints of photos in my book. The new ones are not only much bigger, but are photos from local collections. The photography is mine. I also included a time line.
I will send another email to take care of the second part of the project. Which involves the redecorating of the room of the hotel. Most rooms will have 2 pictures on their walls. A few will have three. all of these pictures will be of Carder Steuben glass!
