Yesterday Gwen Stebbins asked for advice on doing collector shows. John Styler of Prospect Heights, Illinois made this suggestion.
Gwen you should check out the www.winnetkasummerantiquesshow.com
Charles Sweigart of Reinholds, Pennsylvania gives this advice.
There are shows in most large metropolitan areas through out the country. What makes them a good show has more to do with your expectations and the goods, including price points, that you present. Choose the time of year and the geographical area you prefer, look in trade papers to see what occurred last year and contact the promoter to book this years show, preferably at least 3 months in advance. The ease of booking a show at the last moment may indicate a lack of dealer support, all though in today’s economy more shows have openings.
Once in the show, ask other dealers what shows they do, not what shows are good. You will get too many different opinions about “good”. The mere fact that they do a show indicates the anticipated success, based on past experience.
Best of luck in your endeavors.
