Continuing on the paperweight discussion and Steuben and Tiffany, David Donaldson of Orlando adds this to the discussion:
Well Alan,
Time to jump in for a brief moment of regression. Firstly, Tiffany never in written records, booklets etc. used the word “Paperweight” in reference to a vase. He made Aqua Marine vases which as most Tiffany collectors know were made in small numbers due to their inherent problems with instability. Even fewer have survived over the years due to the same inherent problem. Making a similar vase to an “Aqua” vase only thinner achieved a similar range of beauty and most certainly solved the stress with the glass and the factory owner as well.
Regards,
David P. Donaldson, MFA
