Reputedly, classic glass artist, Frederick Carder, was often heard saying “Life is Short, Art is Long”. Bob Weinberg of Huntington, New York reports on his observations of the classics.

Alan: I have seen (and handled) Roman urns (at NYC antique shows) of the same shape as Carder’s designs which leads me to surmise that Carder saw, studied, enjoyed and followed the design of classical pieces that were being recovered in his lifetime. Today I re-visited the Eutruscan bronze vessel at the Morgan Library that was alleged to have been viewed by LCT & the patina of which he strove for in creating his work, so what Carder did was true of artists then and now!

True artists created these lines over the millennia and they will always remain attractive. bob weinberg
