Hi, Alan:
Thought the Club members might be interested in seeing a photograph, following the devastating 1972 flood in Corning, of some of Carder’s glass being transported to a temporary location for conservation. Note: Don’t try this at home! Of course the distance was less than the length of a football field. Still, having seen the care with which our preparators move objects in the collection, I imagine it only happened this way because of the extremity of the circumstances!
If you are interested in seeing more about the 1972 flood, the Rakow Library currently has an exhibit on the topic: http://www.cmog.org/collection/exhibitions/flood-72-community-collections-and-conservation

Comments from Gerry Eggert on the West Virginia Museum of American Glass
Alan,
I have been a member and donor to the West Virginia Museum of American Glass for over 20 years. Their publications are first rate. Their Museum is first rate. Their staff is first rate. Dean Six is first rate as a writer, Museum Director, fundraiser, and Leader. Tom Felt is a former staffer at the Library Of Congress who is their very knowledgeable Curator of American Glass. The remainder of the small staff is knowledgeable and very accommodating to visitors. I would encourage all Steuben Club members to join WVMAG should they wish to learn more about American glass beyond Steuben, Tiffany, Quezel, Durand, and the other NY and NJ glass works, and the New England glass companies. Of course, the West Coast glass companies are not represented by WVMAG either.
